We are developing a new manufacturing facility for plastic laboratory consumables, planned to launch in late 2026. This purpose-built site is being designed to meet international quality standards while addressing the specific needs of laboratories across Africa.
The facility will significantly strengthen our ability to reliably supply our customers with essential laboratory consumables such as tips and tubes, reducing dependence on long and fragile international supply chains. By manufacturing in Pretoria, we aim to improve lead times, ensure product availability, and provide consistent quality to research, diagnostics, and academic laboratories operating in demanding environments.
This new investment reflects our long-term commitment to advancing scientific capability in Africa. Improving access to high-quality, locally supported laboratory consumables is a critical step toward empowering scientists, lab technicians and researchers to focus on their work with greater confidence and continuity.
Our local manufacturing facility will trade under the name Autarky Consumables. The term autarky, derived from Greece, means independence or self-sufficiency—an idea that closely aligns with our vision of building sustainable local manufacturing capability and technical expertise.
The initiative is supported by funding from the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC). Through investment in modern manufacturing technologies, robust quality systems, and efficient production processes, we aim to deliver products that laboratories can rely on day after day. This approach will help laboratories across the region operate with greater consistency, resilience, and confidence, even as demand and complexity continue to grow.
Ultimately, this new facility represents more than expanded capacity—it is a contribution to stronger, more self-reliant science and diagnostics in Africa, today and in the years ahead.
